The Golden Dawn

An excellent name for a disappointing cocktail. It promises much with its lovely looks and mystical name but delivers very little, well I suppose we were overdue a dud one really!

¾ oz Gin

1 oz Calvados

1 oz Apricot Brandy

1 oz Orange Juice

2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Splash Grenadine

Shake everything (except the grenadine) with ice and strain. For this one you’ll need a glass with a pointy bottom for the grenadine to sit. A flat bottomed something like a coup won’t really work to get the desired effect.

Once strained carefully pour a splash of grenadine through the middle, it should sink and give a lovely layered effect.

Now it looks great, and to be honest if you leave it unstirred it doesn’t taste too bad, but beware the last mouthful, if you’re not careful you’ll get a massive and very unpleasant grenadine sugar smack.

We mixed ours all together, thinking maybe diluting the sugar through the whole drink would help, it didn’t, don’t do that.

If I were you I would waste a lovely summery eve on this when there are soo many more delicious summer cocktails out there!

What ever you mix up this weekend be sure to let us know and tag us in your drinky pics, we love to be nosy!
