Ice-Berg

Our first blended drink (I think) and very much needed at the height of summer.

We both found this one a bit underwhelming, it could well be due to my having to substitute one of the ingredients and make one of the others. Could be that it is sublime when made correctly, we’ll probably never know!

1 oz Reposado Tequila

1 oz Orgeat

¾ oz Lemon Juice

1 20ml Bottle Underberg Bitters (¾ oz-ish)

We do have a weird ingredient; Underberg, it’s a aromatic bitter digestif from Germany. It’s sold in small 20ml bottles, the idea being that you knock back the whole thing after a meal. It’s only recently with the explosion of cocktails and cocktail bitters that crazy bartenders have experimented with underberg in drinks.

From what I read about the flavour it is similar to many other European bitter herbal drinks, Jäger being probably the most well known, but Jäegermeister is a lot sweeter so in my attempt to recreate the underberg flavour I mixed jäger with angostura bitters. Who knows if I was anywhere close!

To make the drink add all the ingredients to a blender with a cup of crushed ice, you want about a cup to get the dilution right, blitz away until you have a milkshakey consistency, I didn’t blitz enough and was left with shards of ice in the glass.

If I were you I really would worry about this one, I think it is a drink that really needs the exact ingredients - no substitutions will do!

But there are a great many other blended drinks out there, i for one will be whipping up a batch of margaritas tonight! So let us know what you’re making this weekend!
