The Bird Is The Word No.1

When does a variant become so different it’s entirely its own thing? I’m not sure, but this one is dam close though you can still see the influences of a classic Last Word, one of my all time favourites, creeping through.

1 ¼ oz Tequila

1 oz Yellow Chartreuse

½ oz Apricot Brandy

1 oz Lemon Juice

Give everything a good shake and fine strain, a lovely nick & nora glass would be perfect.

I have to confess I have tweaked the ratios sightly, the actual recipe calls for 5/6oz and 5/12oz and I find those measurements so infuriating, they actually make me angry. This is possibly why I will never make mixologist of the year, but give me a volume I can measure without a pipette, I’m making drinks for friends not running a chemistry lesson.

Sinead was a big fan, and I do enjoy sneaking chartreuse past her & she does enjoy a citrusy twang in her drink which this has in buckets.

Personally I was less of convinced, the citrus sharpness quickly gives way to not much and I thought it a bit bland, but then my tastebuds have been worn away by years of Campari so it’s a wonder I can taste anything really.
